Just wanted to give a little feedback although I have not had the chance to finish Simon 2 completely using your mod yet.

In the room that you land in before you go into the treasure chamber, track 36 is only played once and then track 35 is played again. Normally it should play 35, 36, 36 and then restart by playing track 35. A savegame to this room is here: http://www.tentakelvilla.de/~best-sts/curiousity_room.zip

All the tracks played back end abruptly when changing the screen - sometimes this causes clicking or popping sounds. You might say this is a technical limitation but somehow I cannot remember that this happened with Simon 1 when playing back external audio music tracks. Maybe you could have a look at the code to find some possible workaround?

A lot of your recordings got the problem that they are not well cut. This is especially problematic in scenes with more than one track like the treasury or the room with the prince. It is really a lot of work to cut recordings to much perfection and I know you probably do not have time for this but if you ever get around to re-record everything, please let me know and I will try to spend some weekends on this process.

Otherwise you seem to have done a very good job! I have not found any more bugs. Do you think you might have time soon to have a look at the first and second issue I listed above?

I'd need to fade the music out quickly to avoid pops. This will mean some serious rewriting of the CD Audio code but would bring benefits to every game where I used it so it's probably worthwhile. I made a start on that tonight and got it most of the way there but it needs more work. I have a good idea what the other problem will be and will look at that after.

I wouldn't have much of an issue with rerecording the soundtrack actually as it's not a big job if I can leave all the editing to someone else. Editing them all will be quite a long job if you are going to do it carefully. I'm still waiting for this new Creative soundcard to be released with no firm release date beyond rumours of it being this month. It's not worth me recording anything until I have that installed or the quality will be awful. Hopefully that won't be much longer.

I've updated the test version once again with both of these fixes. I've added a 200ms fadeout when stopping CD tracks which will hopefully improve sound quality to a degree.

Thanks for your update! Just tested it. The bug in the room above the treasury seems to be fixed, but the fading seems not to work properly. It appears to me that the clipping is faded out. Maybe it is better to remove it again and leave it for now until a proper solution is found.

I am currently trying to do some little work on an OPL2 soundtrack. Is there any cache limit I should care about? I'm wondering because when I tested - and I use bigger FLACs and Oggs - the game seemed to freeze often and I think it might be because my music files are too big. Can you tell me up to which size it should be save?

I may tweak the timings but having taken the time to do it I'll probably leave the fading included unless there is a very good reason to remove it. I've no idea about maximum file sizes for CD Audio, fading in and out may not help with the extra sound channel if it got worse with this build. There were problems with STS2 freezing before which I never really did track down a cause for but did manage to fix through trial and error. My guess is it's a recurrence of that and specific to this game. You could try your files with some other games like STS1 and see if you get the same problems.

I might look but the chances of me fixing it will be slim as I don't understand the inner workings of the sound engine and tracking down intermittent crashes is never easy. My C++ skills aren't my strong point as it's a long way from the day job.

Hi Pix. Sorry for my long delay. I would really appreciate if you could examine the bug and fix it. It would be a great step. If your hack gets stable, I might offer the OPL2 soundtrack of Simon 2 on my website.

By the way, did you get your new sound card in the meantime or are you still waiting for its release?

Hi Pix! Just tried out your new Windows build. It seems like you used the old code for the music tracks instead of the new one that you also posted here in the thread. Could you update the Windows build?
