Simon the Sorcerer 2 freeze

Hi Pix,

it's been a while since we wrote the last time by email. Too bad you don't want to be contacted by email anymore.

Anyway, I have just downloaded your newest build for testing out Simon 2 and I noticed that when playing a while that the game will freeze eventually when changing a room. Then there will be a black screen and a short piece of the new music is played over and over again. I tested with the Windows build. Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem?

Hi,

I ended up answering the same questions more than once so a forum seemed like a better idea. My last build is so out of date, that there isn't much value in testing it any more. New builds got to be a complete pain when the codebase shifted from SVN to GIT and I gave in on trying to update it regularly. The last build I did for the Pandora, I ended up just making all the changes by hand.

I've not got much enthusiasm to work on this at the moment in all honesty. With MUNT coming on so much in the last few months, I don't see a lot of value in this project any more. It's still useful for portable devices but it's more or less where I want it to be on the Pandora as it stands. In a few years when we all have portable hardware fast enough to run MUNT/Timidity that is clearly going to be the better alternative for those devices also, so I don't want to spend a lot more time on it.

I've not quite abandoned it yet though. Basically, I'm waiting for a stable release of scummVM with Lands Of Lore support at which point I'll do a "final" version based on that codebase. If there are bugs to fix, there may be several final versions but if I build them all from the same codebase, it will be far easier to sort out any problems without anything else breaking in the meanwhile. That shouldn't be too far away, as Lands Of Lore went into testing a couple of months back. I'll have a look at STS2 at that point. There are hardly any code changes for that game so if it's anything I've caused, then it won't take much fixing.

Thanks for the meanwhile new version! However, the bug seems still to be there although you said that it was fixed. It could be that the mistake was in ScummVM itself. I remembered that ScummVM had problems with music crashs a while ago. Maybe this would be fixed by updating to latest build? I think it would be worth a try. Hopefully this isn't too much work.

It was working ok for me when I tested it. If there is still a problem, I wouldn't hold out any hope for a new build fixing it on it's own. It would be a reasonable amount of work updating the build and I'm not going to do it on the off chance. The source code is always there however if you or anyone else want to have a go. I will have another look at this when I get the chance and see if I can recreate the problem.

I agree. I'll have a look at doing an update when I get the chance but it could be several weeks.

Thank you very much for fixing it! Just tested it yesterday and I have no more crashs. There are still some little issues though, but I'll better discuss about them in another thread.
